FAQ about Weight Loss

When you come in for each session, we will focus on your specific issues and goals. You will always receive one-to-one, personally customized sessions.

Hypnosis is a safe, non-invasive tool you can use to help yourself. When you work with me at Hypnosis Seattle, it is good to plan on 1.5 to 2 hours for your hypnosis session. We will begin with sharing information and you will tell me your specific goals and what you would like to change in your life. Next, we will spend time learning some effective processes that will support you in the changes you will be making. The last hour or so will be spent doing relaxation, induction, and hypnosis specifically focused on the goals you will achieve. All my clients experience trance during each session.

Hypnosis may not feel any different than your normal waking state of awareness. During hypnosis, your conscious mind may remain focused on my words or it may drift off, so you do not track what I am saying. It doesn’t matter what your conscious mind is doing during hypnosis, because your unconscious will be listening to everything and you can trust that you will go to the level of trance that is appropriate for you. There is no pressure to perform, because all you have to do is relax.

When your hypnosis session is complete, you will feel calm, relaxed, refreshed, and ready to bring your full attention to the rest of your day.

Here are some frequently asked questions about how I approach weight loss sessions:

Can you tell me about your approach for weight loss, specifically?

There are many complex factors involved in weight loss.

The goal is to identify and remove the blocks that are interfering with permanent weight loss and to learn to listen to your own body's intuition or Inner Wisdom. Hypnosis allows you to eliminate old negative programming and reprograms your subconscious mind with positive thoughts, images and behaviors. You can even identify and release whatever has been holding you back from achieving the results you want in your life. Every thought affects the body in some way.

With hypnosis, you enter a state of relaxation and heightened suggestibility, so you can easily access the creative part of yourself at an unconscious level where learning and change take place. Hypnosis will affect the way your brain and body feel about food, emotional hunger, cravings, your belief about your body and much more. This will help you feel better, more energized and feel positive about creating whatever you desire in your life.

Controlling stress, eliminating cravings, drinking more water, improving self-esteem and increasing confidence are the keys to successful weight loss. Hypnosis can be used to identify and clarify the physical, habitual and emotional factors for your weight problem and can help change those patterns. Positive suggestions are used to reprogram your subconscious mind to help you meet your goals in healthy, pleasant ways.

How do you reach the root of the problem (beyond just trying to change behavior)?

At Hypnosis Seattle, I include techniques that are specifically designed to reach the root of the problem, such as Parts Integration, Timeline, Future Pacing, NLP, Body Talk, Core Beliefs, Re-programming, Inner Voice, Anchoring, HeartMath, Somatic Healing, Ho’oponopono, Post Hypnotic Signals, and a process using Guided Imagery that resolves any hidden conflicts that may have kept you from reaching your goal. There are also breathing techniques and a process called meridian tapping that I may teach you and you can use whenever you choose.

What level of long-term success have you had with clients seeking help with weight loss?

Almost all my clients notice specific changes and experience positive results after the first session, so that really helps to create momentum to reach your goals with confidence. Specific feedback from my clients helps us fine tune the next sessions.

Some of my clients have specific weight loss goals that they want to measure in pounds or clothes size. Others want to stop eating sweets or to stop late night eating. Many clients have more general goals, such as making healthier food choices, or to stop eating when they are stressed or for emotional reasons.

When your behavior changes, you will know that hypnosis is working. Healthy weight loss is achieved over time.

Most weight loss clients schedule 3 sessions about a week or two apart. Some clients like to take more time between sessions. A few people choose to schedule their sessions a month or so apart.

You know when you do not need any more sessions when you easily make the choices you want and continue to make progress towards your weight loss goal.

How many sessions does it take to get results?

Sometimes only one or two sessions are needed to begin positive changes, and other times, there are more complex factors involved and it takes more sessions to address what comes up for each individual. Results are ultimately achieved by applying these techniques over time.

Do you consider weight loss through hypnosis to be particularly challenging since it's not a habit you can quit altogether?

Weight loss responds very well to hypnotherapy. Safe and effective, hypnosis creates a special psychological state which allows you to make positive change happen and get the results you desire.

The following information is from The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) which is the largest U.S. organization for health and mental health care professionals using clinical hypnosis.

In a 9-week study of two weight management groups (one using hypnosis for weight loss and one not using hypnosis), the hypnosis for weight loss group continued to get results in the two-year follow-up, while the non-hypnosis group showed no further results (Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985).

In a study of 60 women separated into hypnosis versus non-hypnosis groups, the groups using hypnosis lost an average of 17 pounds, while the non-hypnosis group lost an average of only .5 pounds (Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1986).

In a comparison of the results of adding hypnosis to weight loss treatment across multiple studies showed that adding hypnosis increased weight loss by an average of 97% during treatment, and even more importantly increased the effectiveness POST TREATMENT by over 146%. This shows that hypnosis works even better over time (Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1996).

If one is already conscious of their eating habits - will the change hypnosis offers be sufficient?

The part of our brain that decides whether to burn calories or store fat is very old and responds to whether it perceives stress or not. To this old part of our brain, any kind of stress gets translated as “not enough food”. When the brain thinks there is not enough food, that signals this old part of our brains to store fat to survive. Using hypnosis to train relaxation into our brains and using relaxation techniques right before we choose to eat anything, will communicate to the mind of our body that there is plenty of food and there is no need to store fat. Hypnosis allows you to train your brain and body to return to this healthy, relaxed state automatically.

Hypnosis allows you to communicate with your DNA so that the genetic programs that tells your body it needs to store fat can be turned OFF, and turn ON the DNA programs that tell your body it wants to be thin, which will allow your body to burn the calories you eat.
A negative inner monologue can also create a lot of stress in your body. Do you frequently think negative thoughts? When you start changing the tone of your thoughts to be more positive, they will trigger more positive emotions and reduce stress.

Also, when under stress, whether it is physical, emotional, mental or environmental, real or imagined, the stress hormone cortisol is released. Cortisol is produced in the adrenal glands which rest on top of the kidneys. These glands also release adrenalin, as an immediate response to stress and cortisol is released under prolonged periods of stress. Both adrenalin and cortisol are necessary in small amounts for us to adapt to stress effectively. In high levels, however, they can have many negative effects on our health including storage of unneeded fat. Also, cortisol shuts down your ability to absorb the nutrients from the food you eat causing your body to send hungers signals to eat more.

It seems that mental or emotional stress is the most harmful to us because it is not followed by a relaxation response in the way it happens with most physical stress. Our brain and body fail to return to a resting, healthy, balanced state. This can lead to weight gain or prevent weight loss.

Hypnosis allows you to train your brain and body to return to a healthy, relaxed state automatically.

Hypnosis Proven Effective for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

http://www.hypnosisdownloads.com/health-issues/irritable-bowel-syndrome
Hypnosis can help ease your symptoms caused by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Over a decade of scientific research has shown hypnotherapy to be an effective choice for alleviating the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Hypnotherapy routinely produces positive results for the people who use it.

Hypnosis has been so successful for improving IBS symptoms that Adriane Fugh-Berman, MD, chair of the National Women's Health Network in Washington, DC, says that hypnosis should be the treatment of choice for IBS cases which have not responded to conventional therapy.

The main theory behind the success of hypnosis for IBS is that the relaxation improves blood flow to the gut - something that stress tends to inhibit - and so improves digestion and the movement of food through the bowel.

Stop being a picky eater!

http://www.hypnosisdownloads.com/healthy-eating/picky-eater
Discover the pleasures of enjoying a wider variety of foods.
It's easy to stop being a picky eater when you use hypnosis to help you make the change.

Do you find yourself examining every plate of food that's put in front of you to check that it meets your personal food rules?

Is eating with others a trial because you might get faced with something that you don't want to try?

Being very careful about what you eat is sensible behavior in certain specific contexts. For instance, if you are in a place you don't know whose cuisine you are unfamiliar with, or where you are very uncertain of the food hygiene. Or if you have specific allergies or health conditions where certain foodstuffs can make you ill.

But for most of us, in our home cultures, it's pretty safe to eat pretty well anything.

Picky eaters are caught up in anxiety.

But sometimes you can get caught up in a pattern of anxiety and refusal around certain foods that doesn't have any solid basis in reality.

There can be lots of reasons for this, ranging from early childhood experiences with food to maybe a couple of disastrous encounters with certain foodstuffs that just make you scared to try anything new ever again.

Does it matter if you're a picky eater?

While in the big scheme of things being very choosy about your food doesn't matter all that much, it can be a pain to you and to people around you at the personal level.

It's embarrassing to feel that you've got to refuse to eat food that others have carefully prepared for you, for instance.

And it's a shame to be cut off from the wide range of pleasurable food experiences that other people take for granted.

But there is something you can do about it.

If there isn't an important health reason for you to limit the range of foods you eat, you can personally train your brain to expand the scope of foods that it will tag as 'acceptable' and 'safe' for you to try.

Hypnosis can help you learn to eat a wider range of food.  Feeling more and more calm about food in general. Enjoying tastes and textures that you may never have experienced before. Along with getting the health benefits of a more varied diet.

Hypnosis Helps Overcome Fear and Anxiety

http://www.hypnosisdownloads.com/fears-phobias/anxiety-fear

"Get control over unnecessary fear and anxiety.

Use hypnosis to gently reset your anxiety levels and become more relaxed in more situations.

Do you ever feel that your thoughts and emotions control you, rather than the other way round?

Sometimes, you can feel as if something bad is about to happen for no apparent reason. As if you are about to have to do something, but you don't know what, when or where.

This sort of general anxiety or fear is usually generated by an unconscious response to the 'misuse' of the imagination. Basically, the 'back part' of the mind is getting the message from the imagination that something bad is going to happen, and so creates a state of readiness in the mind and body to act upon the anxiety.

This can partly be due to experiences in the past, or a lack of an ability to tolerate uncertainty or not knowing what is going to happen. Whatever the reason, using anti anxiety-hypnosis, the mind can learn to relax and take things as they come.

And this is how this 'Hypnosis for Anxiety and Fear' session works. Using hypnotherapy, anxiety melts away, enabling you to enter a calm and relaxed frame of mind. The unconscious mind can then learn to 're-set' its responses and get back to normal, allowing you to enjoy every day with less anxiety, and more comfort."

Hypnosis and Anxiety

by GĂ©rard V. Sunnen, M.D.

"Anxiety and anxiety-related conditions are the most common psychological afflictions of man and account for a major percentage of initial complaints to psychiatrists as well as to general practitioners. Although it is estimated that some 5% of the population may suffer from acute or chronic anxiety, with women outnumbering men two to one (Cohen and White, 1950), the numbers are probably significantly higher.

As a symptom, anxiety is a final common pathway for many conditions, physical as well as psychological. As syndromes, anxiety disorders are under intensive study to define more precisely their etiologies and clinical outcomes. Recent studies, showing disturbances of lactate metabolism in certain anxious individuals, point to the possibility that some anxiety states, like some depressive states, have strong biological and genetic determinants.

Hypnosis finds its most common clinical utilization in the treatment of anxiety and its related states, not only because of anxiety's prevalence, but because hypnosis has such a clear role as a potent anti-anxiety agent. In this chapter, we will examine hypnotic behavioral approaches to anxiety, while hypnopsychotherapeutic approaches will be discussed in Chapter 14.

EVALUATION OF ANXIETY

The first task of the hypnotherapist is to evaluate the anxiety condition. At the end of the initial interview, several questions must be asked. Is the anxiety organically determined? Is there a medical, physiological, or otherwise somatic basis for its existence? The list of medical conditions which, as a by-product, contain anxiety is long: hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, anemia, hypoglycemia, withdrawal from sedative hypnotics (including alcohol), and caffeinism, cocaine, and psychostimulant abuse, among others. Anxiety is also sometimes confused with medical conditions which, in their presentation, share its expressions. Coronary artery disease, with chest pain, respiratory distress, and cardiac symptoms can mimic anxiety states; so can hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytomas and Meniere's disease. The treatment, while not obviating adjunctive psychotherapeutic or hypnotherapeutic intervention, will of course be mainly aimed at treating the primary medical condition.

Is the anxiety an aggravating component of a chronic medical syndrome? Most psychosomatic conditions are intimately connected to anxiety and stress. Flare-ups of such diseases as peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, or hypertension produce anxiety. Conversely, difficulties with psychosocial adjustment bring exacerbations in these conditions. Anxiety control is important to ease the interactive play of psyche and soma.

Is the anxiety a part of another psychiatric syndrome? Anxiety weaves into most psychiatric syndromes. Major depression is rarely seen without it, and so is mania. Schizophrenia, especially in the decompensation phase, as the individual experiences ego fragmentation, can be marked by fright--as can organic brain syndromes with their cognitive disruptions. Treatment of anxiety in these conditions is centered on correcting the global psychiatric syndrome.

When medical conditions and major psychiatric syndromes are eliminated as reasons for anxiety, we are left with more functional causes. It is useful, in our therapeutic approach, to see patients' experiences of anxiety as falling into three general categories: (1) individuals reporting chronic, free-floating feelings of fear (generalized anxiety disorder); (2) individuals manifesting discreet episodes of panic, but who, in between attacks, are relatively anxiety free (panic disorders); and (3) mixed syndromes.

There are other syndromes which contain anxiety as a core experiential manifestation.

Phobias are differentiated by the fact that they happen in the context of identifiable situations. They are marked by anxiety and avoidance. Thus agoraphobia is manifested in environments where the individual feels trapped and unable to return to safety, ie, common places include elevators, subways, planes, tunnels and bridges. Social phobias appear in interpersonal situations; and simple phobias are persistent, irrational fears of specific objects or animals. Phobias may be mildly bothersome or severely incapacitating. There are individuals who stay imprisoned in their homes because they fear the anxiety they may experience if they venture outside.

Posttraumatic stress disorders, acute or chronic, have generalized anxiety as a major component of a constellation of somatic and psychological disturbances following an accident, a loss, or any other disaster.

Obsessive compulsive disorders are characterized by tension stemming from the conscious emergence of thoughts, desires, and wishes to perform certain actions, and attempts to deny, ignore, undo, or suppress them. When severe, the anxiety becomes generalized, chronic, and incapacitating.

Adjustment disorders represent maladaptive responses to identifiable psychological stressors. Predominant symptoms in adjustment disorders with anxious mood, are nervousness, worry, and jitteriness.

HYPNOTIC TREATMENT OF SYNDROMES MANIFESTING GENERALIZED ANXIETY

Generalized anxiety disorder (DSM-III, 300.02) is characterized by pervasive, persistent anxiety, manifested by motor tension--strained facies, fidgeting, restlessness, fatigueability; autonomic hyperactivity-sweating, palpitations, light-headedness, paresthesias, upset stomach, lump in the throat, high resting pulse and respiratory rate; apprehensive expectation--worry, rumination, anticipation of misfortune to self or others; hyperattentiveness resulting in distractibility, difficulty in concentrating, insomnia, irritability, and impatience. To meet diagnostic criteria, the anxious mood has to have lasted at least a month.

Approaches to chronic generalized anxiety, which may incorporate hypnotic intervention, may be roughly grouped into analytic or behavioral types. Hypnoanalytic methods will be explored in a later chapter. Behavioral techniques do not necessarily exclude the importance of psychodynamic factors but rather, as in the case of anxiety, treat them as incidental to the illness itself, ie, anxiety is not a reflection of an underlying disorder, it is the illness; as a learned maladaptive response it needs to be unlearned. In this model, anxiety, once removed, is not replaced by other symptoms. In clinical practice, however, it is observed that some symptoms occur in a learned maladaptive model, others in a conflict-generated model, and the rest as admixtures of the two. Hypnosis may be woven into most behavioral techniques. In this way, the therapeutic potential of both disciplines may act additively, if not synergistically.

The following methods can be applied to the treatment of the generalized anxiety syndrome.

Hypnotically Induced Relaxation

While neutral hypnosis already assumes generalized relaxation, special hypnotic procedures can allow for its amplification.

The therapist will want to know the anxiety's signature in his particular patient. Where is the anxiety in the body? With what words can it best be described? Does it restrict breathing, speaking clearly, thought, motor performance, or coordination? These notions are important because, during the course of relaxation training, the therapist may choose wording and imagery accordingly. The subject who feels, for example, a burning sensation in the abdomen as an anxiety equivalent, may be asked to imagine sensations of coolness to counteract it; to someone whose anxiety comes out as tightness in the neck muscles, sensations of warmth in these areas may be suggested.

It may be explained to the patient before the induction that relaxation is both a physical and a mental state. It is pointed out that the body, in relaxation, feels slowed down and reluctant to move, the visceral spaces are experienced as comfortably rested, and breathing and heart rate attain natural baseline rhythms. Psychologically, the mind progressively feels detached from concerns, worries, and current stressful emotions.

Asking the subject, "What would you feel like if you were totally and deeply relaxed?" is a useful avenue to explore. In addition to misconceptions in need of modification, the responses may point to useful avenues for tailoring the hypnotic process to powerful preconceived notions.

Knowing that the purpose of hypnotherapy for our patient is relaxation training, the induction is geared to maximizing it. Suggestions are given for feelings which regularly accompany relaxation, ie, restful heaviness of the body. Similarities are drawn to states of mind the subject is already familiar with, which in themselves contain relaxed feelings, ie, daydreaming, reveries, or sleep. At the end of the induction, when the subject has already achieved significant tension reduction, appropriate deepening procedures are used.

The therapist should have at his disposal several procedures for the amplification of relaxation. Some may turn out to be much more effective than others; however, since there is no reliable way to predict beforehand which deepening technique will be most efficient, a trial-and-error approach often has to be attempted. The following techniques are commonly used to dissolve anxiety in the context of the hypnotic trance.

Direct suggestion. Direct suggestions for generalized relaxation in the subject who achieves a light to medium trance is often sufficient to attain desired results. Suggestions for total body relaxation, for letting go of tensions, physical and mental, are most effective when rhythmically timed with respiration.

In the same way that anxiety is experienced differently by each individual, so is relaxation. It is important, at the end of the first session, to ask how relaxation manifested itself. If, for example, feelings of floating or drifting were elicited, these same feelings can be directly searched for, brought forth, and expanded in the following sessions for faster induction and further deepening.

Counting method. Some individuals respond best to a counting technique. Many variations of this technique exist. It is explained, for example, that as slow counting progresses from 1 to 20, relaxation will become more and more profound, 20 representing the deepest level of relaxation the subject can attain during the session.

Counting with imagery. Counting may be combined with imagery. For example: "As I count from 1 to 20, you can see yourself walking down 20 steps into the garden of your subconscious mind. In your garden, you will find wonderful feelings of total relaxation flowing throughout your body."

Progressive relaxation. Some subjects are most responsive to a stepwise and methodical method. Individual muscle groups are focused on, starting from the lower extremities or from the head and neck, until all muscle groups are relaxed.

Autogenic training. The production of relaxation in many individuals is facilitated by suggestions or feelings of heaviness and sensations of warmth in the body (see autogenic training, below).

Pure imagery. Imagery techniques for relaxation are the most idiosyncratic of all methods. While, for example, the image of a beach may be attractively soothing for one person, it may leave another indifferent. Preliminary discussions will give the hypnotherapist some idea of what constitutes positive imagery for his patient. During hypnosis, the art of giving imagery suggestions resides in good part on the utilization of multiple sensory modalities--in a beach image, for example, a more engrossing effect can be created by talking about the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations one is likely to experience in such a setting.

Use of touch Touch, properly used and timed, is a powerful focusing modality for the patient. In the same way that touch may be used to induce analgesia in parts of the body, it may also be applied to suggest deep feelings of relaxation. For example: "As I touch your shoulder, your entire arm becomes deeply relaxed, all the way down to your fingertips. I'll touch your other shoulder and now your forehead; as I do, feelings of deep relaxation begin to drift throughout your body."

Autogenic Training

Autogenic training is a method of psychophysiological selfeducation containing elements of both hypnosis and meditation. The first of many editions of Autogenic Training appeared in 1932. Its author, J.H. Schultz, a German psychiatrist and neurologist, was influenced by research on sleep and hypnosis performed by Oskar Voght at the Berlin Institute some 30 years before. Voght observed that some subjects could produce in themselves states of mind similar or identical to hypnosis by performing certain exercises; and that these self-induced states had therapeutic value--subjects reported improvements in well-being, disappearance of headaches, lowering of anxiety level, and reduction of fatigue and tension. Voght called these exercise "prophylactic rest--autohypnosis."

Schultz streamlined the exercises. He found that most deeply hypnotized subjects invariably experienced sensations of heaviness and warmth in various parts of their bodies and postulated that the creation of these sensations, in a reverse psychophysiological process, could bring about the experience of the trance state.

A series of exercises was designed, in a format of increasing difficulty, and their practice gathered many followers throughout the world. The first of these are physiologically oriented, focusing on the neuromuscular and visceral systems. Subjects are asked, in exercises of introspective creative imagination, to produce sensations of heaviness and pleasant warmth in the limbs--it is easiest initially to produce them in these areas--then in the chest and the abdominal regions. Once mastered, usually after six to 12 months of training, subjects graduate to meditative exercises, which focus on the development of certain higher mental functions.

Preliminary instructions are for the use of a quiet dimly illuminated room, free of disturbances. The subject, in loose clothing, may adopt a fully reclined, semireclined, or a simple sitting posture.

First stage--eyes are gently closed. A gentle bodily introspection eliminates obvious internal muscular tension. The sensations of heaviness of the dominant arm, as it lies on its support, is brought to awareness. Some people find it helpful to repeat silently "my arm feels heavier and heavier." When heaviness is experienced throughout the arm, the same feeling is extended into the other arm through, as Schultz described, a process of generalization; the legs come next, the back, and the regions of the head and neck. When the whole body is experienced as being heavy, the second stage is attempted.

Second stage--warmth. For most people, feelings of heaviness are more easily conjured than those of warmth. The same process used to create feelings of heaviness is applied to feelings of warmth, first starting on one extremity, then progressing to the whole body, except for the forehead and temples which are imbued with sensations of coolness. Autosuggestions may help, ie, "my arm feels warmer, pleasantly warm," and imagery may be used, "my body feels like it is resting on the warm sands of the beach."

Third stage--regularization of cardiac rhythm and respiration. The object of this stage is not to seek control of cardiac rhythm, as is the aim of some yoga exercises, but to effect a slowdown and regularity of heart function which is congruent with total relaxation. Deep hypnotic and meditative states are accompanied by lowered metabolic work, decreased oxygen consumption, a slow (50 to 60 beats per minute) heart rate, and slower, more abdominal respiration. In the practice of the third stage, awareness is centered on the internal sensations of cardiac pulsations--a hand may be placed over the precordium--and self-instructions are given to help these desired results.

Fourth stage--centering on the upper abdominal region. Borrowing from ancient meditative exercises, the subject, having mastered the previous steps, is guided to center a relaxed attentiveness on the upper abdominal regions.

Reported effects of autogenic training. Effects of autogenic training are subjective as well as objective. Veteran practitioners talk about a generalized sense of well-being, feelings of energy and stamina, and relative freedom from symptoms commonly associated with stress. Objectively, during autogenically induced states as in meditative states, there is evidence of autonomic and metabolic slowdown.

Jacobson's Method Of Relaxation

While Schultz elaborated his method in Berlin, Germany, Jacobson in the United States worked towards similar goals but through different routes. His method is based on observations that the mere thought of a muscular action brings on electromyographic changes. This, he pointed out, bespeaks of a direct relationship between muscular tonus and psychological tension. For the purpose of achieving relaxation at cortical levels, Jacobson developed a methodical technique involving the progressive relaxation of all muscular groups in the body. Jacobson's method, for proper execution, requires a minimum of six months of training.

Methodology. Starting from the tip of one extremity--the right hand, for example--the individual is guided to move his awareness to the wrist, the forearm, in deliberate succession, to cover eventually the totality of the musculature. To help in focusing awareness and to enhance the experience of relaxation, each muscle group is sometimes tensed, then relaxed.

Hypnosis may be used with Jacobson's or modified Jacobson's techniques to stimulate progress. Conversely, and much more frequently practiced, are modified Jacobson techniques used in the context of the hypnotic trance to achieve progressively deeper states of relaxation.

RELATIONSHIP OF HYPNOSIS TO MEDITATION, SELF-HYPNOSIS, AND NEUTRAL HYPNOSIS

In describing the subjective experience of the hypnotic trance, mention was made of alterations in the sense of time flow and of sensations of relative removal from the bonds of the external reality situation. Usually, there is less or no perceived need to move physically, attention is withdrawn from concerns with bodily motion and balance, and there is less or no need to interact socially. Yet, in hypnosis the individual still feels a presence and has awareness of the rapport with another person--that being the hypnotist. In hypnosis, the elements of this relationship are intertwined with the experience of the trance. In hypnosis, part of the patient's psyche is linked to the hypnotist's psyche, in a process of dynamic communication. The hypnotist may communicate with one part of the subject's self, then with another, but there is always a bridge. In the subjective experience of the subject, he or she is not "free." Although the hypnotist may be very permissive, very choice-giving, the confines of the relationship remain.

Self hypnosis brings more autonomy. The link of rapport is broken and a more conscious part of the psyche gives suggestions to another more unconscious part. Usually, self-instructions are fairly specific and invite or reinforce personal change.

Sometimes the individual enters a hypnotic state and does not give himself or herself specific suggestions or directions. This is called neutral hypnosis, a state marked by relaxation, free-floating imagery, and dream fragments or sequences. In neutral hypnosis, the sense of control floats, undirected. The subject may observe and remember or not observe and not remember. It is an unstructured trance state.

If we add one ingredient to this trance state, we have meditation. That ingredient is directed watchfulness.

The meditative trance is similar in quality to the self-hypnotic trance. In meditation, however, the individual starts out with no overt trance-inducing signal, but rather, the resolve to begin, and focuses the observing ego on a part of the body (eg, the solar plexus), a sound (mantra), a symbolic image (mandala), a spiritual feeling, or a universal idea.

Indications for meditative training. Although, like most therapies, meditative training has been claimed to relieve many somatic and psychological disorders, its clearest and best documented indication is in the treatment of generalized anxiety."

Start a healthy dialogue with your cells.

It’s so important that women realize that we can communicate with our genes and get them to change their behavior — we talk to them all the time through our nutritional choices and the patterns of our emotions, whether we realize it or not. Where our metabolic set point and weight are concerned, we can start by having a conversation with our body — paying attention to our emotions, our nutrition, and our exercise.

Studies of laughter therapy in type 2 diabetics showed that as many as 23 different genes were altered as a byproduct of laughter. Not only that, but the activity of several blood enzymes and their precursors changed as well, in ways that were beneficial toward preventing a range of metabolic imbalances.

So one of the ways that we can send positive signals to our genes, cells, and proteins is by cultivating positive emotions. At the same time, addressing sources of negative emotions — particularly trauma from our past that is a continual source of sadness, guilt, shame, or anger — can reduce the flow of negative messages to our genes and cells.

Women can influence their genes and aren’t doomed to being overweight because of their heredity. For many women, this means changing long-standing ways of thinking or acting.

Very few women in our culture go through life without ever experiencing a powerful, and often unhealthy, relationship with food. Understanding the feelings that trigger unhealthy eating habits can take you a long way toward changing those habits.

Learn to love and accept yourself. Focus on your health, not your weight. Forgive yourself and step back toward balance. If you can’t do it all, do what you can.

Abstract

This experimental single-case study examines hypnosis as an anxiety management and ego-strengthening technique for stuttering modification. The fluency of a 29-year-old male with a severe overt stutter was measured in controlled conditions over a baseline period, 12 hypnosis sessions and five follow-up sessions, using standardized reading material. In hypnosis the subject was taught anxiety management and self-hypnosis techniques alongside covert rehearsal of coping with stressful situations. Fluency improved immediately during hypnosis and a steady increase in fluency was seen over sessions on the standardized materials when tested both before and after hypnosis. On the basis of post-hypnotic suggestion and directed practice, these marked improvements in speech production seen in the laboratory were generalized to everyday situations. The subject also reported a considerable improvement in his general physical and mental well-being. The significance of these results for the use of hypnosis as an adjunct to speech therapy are discussed. Copyright © 1997 British Society of Experimental and Clinical Hypnosis

Choose love not fear...666

The carbon atom has 6 protons, 6 neutrons, 6 electrons... 666, sound familiar?
Carbon is the building block for all life on Earth! Carbon is the most prevalent element in the Universe.

The Carbon atom is the chemical basis for most of the molecules that are important to maintaining life. These molecules include carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids, as in DNA, the chemical that contains our genetic code and the development and functioning of all known living organisms

Carbon is the key for photosynthesis, which ultimately provides food for all living things on Earth.
It always surprises me when someone worries about my phone number...206-719-6660.

Verizon's computer randomly gave me my phone number that happens to contain the numbers 666. When I was ordering my new phone, the Verizon customer service guy saw the numbers on his screen (before I knew what it was) and he asked me how I felt about 6's. I laughed and asked "Why? Does it have three 6's in it?" He said, "Yes and the last lady screamed at me!" I explained that there is a reference in the Book of Revelations in the Bible to the apocalypse that says 666 is the number of the "Beast" which is interpreted by some as referring to the devil and all things evil, oh my.

I love mathematics. The language of numbers is universal, logical and scientific.

The number 666 (666 / 6*6*6 = 216 / 2160 / 21,600, etc.) is a mathematical sequence or code found throughout nature and helps us understand the universe, from ourselves to basic structures of matter, to the planets and the stars.

The number 666 has many references in Sacred Geometry, Color, and Harmonics. There are many variations on a theme of obtaining the number 666 from all manner of diverse sources. In fact, there are really too many references to 666 for one not to consider that perhaps there is something really beautiful, intelligent, interesting and positive about the number.

666 has always interested me, because Sacred Symbols often face attacks by certain groups in order to remove their power, or create fear.

Numbers do not create hate and fear, only people do that.

Beliefs and knowledge manifest our reality, so I believe in choosing love, not fear.

Permissive, not Authoritative, Hypnosis

"The Ericksonian approach, or Permissive Approach, acknowledges every person as a unique individual that has unique behaviors and ways of entering a trance state and receiving suggestions. The subject knows how to relax and how to enter a trance state. The hypnotist merely acts as a guide into a hypnotic state.
Before Dr. Milton Erickson developed the Permissive Approach, the prevailing method of hypnosis was known as Authoritative Hypnosis.

In Authoritative hypnosis, the hypnotist has a power relationship over the subject and uses relaxation techniques on the subject in order for them to enter a trance state. For example, one might be reminded of the popular image of stage hypnotists when they say, “You are getting sleepy” or “Your eyes are getting heavy” (Alman, 1983, p. 26).

The idea is that the hypnotist must act in a way to get the person’s conscious mind out of the way in order to open up the unconscious, usually attempting to put consciousness “to sleep” (Alman, 1983, p. 26).

In Authoritative Hypnosis, the unconscious mind if viewed as a reservoir or a fertile piece of ground in which one can “implant” suggestions. According to this approach, the unconscious is like a basement where experiences are stored and lay stagnant unless they are aroused by some external stimuli.

Also, according to this approach to unconsciousness, the hypnotist must then tell the unconscious mind what it should do.
This approach is also faulty, because the unconscious mind is not a neutral space which will do whatever the hypnotist tells it to do.

This theory of hypnosis is often ineffective, because if the person cannot enter a trance when the hypnotist tells them to, then they are viewed as simply “unhypnotizable”.

Milton Erickson believed that every person has the ability to enter a trance state, and every person does so on a daily basis (see Haley, 1986).

The unconscious, according to Erickson, is a living and active participant in the psyche, and “knows” what is best for the person.

Erickson saw the unconscious as intelligent and autonomous. He said the trance state is, “An opportunity for the subject to set aside his or her identification with any limiting conscious processes and shift into a context (i.e. trance) where he or she can access and utilize resources for therapeutic gain” (Zeig, 1980, p. 89).

Notice the shift in language; the hypnotist is not forcing the subject to enter into a trance state, but instead allowing them to do it themselves.

Using this approach, hypnotherapy treats each subject as an entirely unique person.

Erickson would say that “the hypnotist should utilize the subject’s present reality, affirming that what they are feeling is perfectly fine and that it can lead them into a desired outcome (e.g., experience trance)” ( Zeig, 1980, p. 89)

For Erickson, to accept the person’s reality meant that the hypnotist must have the attitude that what the subject is doing at any given time is valid. The person has perfectly good reasons for seeing the world in whatever way that they do. In comparison to the authoritative approach, this means that the person can never be unhypnotizable.

To accomplish this, Hypnotherapists engage in what is known as “pacing” and “leading.”

“Pacing” means that the hypnotist relays the person’s communications back to them, not attempting to coerce them in any way, in order to build trust and rapport between the subject and hypnotist.

The term “leading” means that the hypnotist communicates ideas or behaviors that are slightly different from the ones the subject is currently experiencing. However, these communications are slightly closer to the desired trance state.

For example, a hypnotist may say to a person, “You are sitting there, looking at me, breathing deeply, and as you shift in your chair you may also begin to shift into a state of comfortable relaxation” (Zeig, 1980, p. 90). The above quotation is a good example of pacing and leading, in that the subject’s non verbal communication is acknowledged, accepted, and then a new lead is proposed by the hypnotist.

This process of pacing and leading is continuous in hypnotherapy, like a spiraling stair case.

Any sort of resistance to a given lead is not really resistance at all, and certainly does not mean that the subject cannot be hypnotized. All it means is that the given lead does not work for that person. So the hypnotist can throw it out and try something new, thus actually doing something constructive because the hypnotist now knows what does not work for that person (Zeig, 1980, p. 89-90).

Erickson also emphasized the use of indirect language to allow the subject’s unconscious to reveal itself in whatever way it feels is best.

For example, if I say the word “sky” there are an infinite number of images that can be associated with that word. Someone could see a bright blue, clear sky. Someone else could see a blue sky with clouds, or a completely cloudy sky.

Ericksonian hypnotherapy utilizes this indirect language so that the subject can communicate their own association to the language presented, rather than conforming to a prefabricated idea that the hypnotist imposes on them.

Ericksonian therapy is concerned only with guiding the individual as he/she exists in the present, and so there would be no need to “dig up” past negative or traumatic experiences.

In fact, many times Ericksonian hypnotherapy is successful at treating the symptoms of a subject (sometimes eliminating them), which will allow the person the ability to look back at their experiences on their own in a calm manner (Zeig, 1980). "

Energy Tip:Escape the Grip of Fear

"When you are caught in fear, anxiety, or a phobia, try tapping a point on the Triple Warmer (TW) meridian. TW governs the fight, flight, or freeze response, and can help alleviate the fear. Use this simple technique the next time you feel fearful or anxious.

1. Sink into the fear.

2. Place your hand over your heart and start tapping the back side of your hand halfway between your wrist and fingers, aligned with the point where your fourth and fifth fingers converge (see image on right). Tap there for about one minute.

3. If you still feel the fear, repeat the same process on the other hand.

Even for a long-standing phobia, repeated use of this technique will begin to alter the underlying energetic pattern.

Triple Warmer meridian not only governs the flight, fight, or freeze response, it also governs habits. So you may need to tap this TW spot on the hand (also called the "gamut point" in Energy Psychology) for an extended period of time before TW lets go of the pattern."

How do you feel about getting old?

"Gary Douglas wants us to truly know that getting old is a choice. Access Consciousness tools and body processes allow us to experience a different approach to aging that is not based on dogma or collective unconsciousness.

People’s thinking needs to change in three ways:

1.It is not diet and exercise that creates longevity; it is a healthy point of view with no judgement.

2.Deciding that life after 45 is a down-hill slide is not obligatory; it is simply buying into someone else’s insanity.

3.It is vital to open your mind to the possibilities and start creating an amazing life after 45.

The idea of "talking to your body" and asking it to be an ally, a playmate or a co-conspirator in the creation of your life, your looks and your pursuit of joy, enjoyment and wonder."

Suggestion

Direct vs Indirect Suggestion: Understanding the Broad Context of Suggestion

"Virtually all writings comparing and contrasting the use of direct and indirect suggestions in hypnosis refer to the structure of language. But there is much beyond the way we word suggestions that can have a major suggestive impact. These impacts are something we need to be keenly aware of in order to give maximum benefit to the influence of suggestions. Body language, facial expressions, tone and volume of voice, gestures, timing, eye contact, physical contact such as a handshake, gender, age, bearing and appearance, including health, body type and clothing can all be major indirect suggestions that affect the meaning of our language. The meaning of language will also affect and be understood by each individual uniquely because of the various personal meanings and connotations each of us associates to words and phrases, and by the emotional state, mood and expectancies of your client.
Further indirect suggestions are given by colors, harmony of styles, cleanliness, temperature, aromas or odors, condition of the office, reception area, facilities and office building, and by the function, form, style and quality of furniture. Various additional aspects of location include the size and prestige of the city or town, neighboring offices and adjacent buildings, section of city or town and immediate neighborhood, people one may encounter in the vicinity of your office, and noise levels. Cultural and semantic factors also influence the meaning of suggestions, including the culture and language in which you and your client meet and converse, and each of your backgrounds and life experience. Time of day or night, current events and seasonal factors, including holiday periods, can be indirect suggestions that affect the way language influences people at a particular time.
There are many indirect influences in the written word as well as the spoken word. When seeing a suggestion or opinion in writing we are influenced by the venue, be it a book, magazine, newspaper article, advertisement, letter, email or billboard, and whether it be from a friend, a relative, an organization we belong to, a government agency, or spam email. When reading a book the quality of writing, the book's quality and size, the cover, the background and additional writings of the author, etc., all add a context that affects the meaning and attention given to suggestions.

There is no such thing as a simple, independent direct suggestion. The context of a so-called "direct suggestion" always has a great many indirect surrounding influences. In fact the distinction of such influences becomes blurred, and some of the influences may be considered direct rather than indirect, depending on the situation and moment in time."

Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP offers very effective support for all kinds of behavioral changes, and provides self-hypnosis techniques to change mental, physical and emotional states with ease and speed.

NLP is not about exploring or analyzing the content of an issue, but instead is oriented around effectively shifting from the state associated with the presenting issue or problem to the desired state (or resource state) through rapid trance techniques which employ neurological processes to achieve results.

Through NLP inner resources are developed and activated. NLP works with the brain, using the way the brain processes experiences, information, beliefs and feelings for the purpose of making positive cahnges in your life.

NLP techniques can be used both in light or medium trance states, and once learned in trance can be easily used in a waking state to support achieving goals as well as achieving ongoing emotional balance and harmony.

Will Hypnosis Work For Me?

Please call (206) 719-6660. I would be glad to answer any questions you have.

Some people are curious about hypnosis, but unsure if hypnosis will work for them.

I do not spend any time “testing” whether you are able to be hypnotized or not. Because in my experience, everyone can be hypnotized and people go into a trance multiple times a day.

The only difference with hypnosis/hypnotherapy is that you go into a trance state for the purpose of helping you achieve your goals. Some of the work I do with my clients is in an active trance state, engaged in guided imagery, where the client is accessing Alpha and Theta brain wave states AND is fully awake and aware.

You already know how to reach hypnotic states because you have been doing it your entire life whether you knew it or not. For example, you reach a state of hypnosis when you daydream, remember an event that happened in the past, drive a car, read a book, watch a good movie, listen to music, lie down to rest, etc.

Hypnosis has many levels that range from light to deep. Depth is just a metaphor used when speaking about hypnosis, as in the suggestion to go "deeper and deeper" into hypnosis. Hypnotic states are part of a continuum of regular consciousness, so you may reach many different hypnotic states during your session.

How to Rewire Your Brain to End Food Cravings

by Dr Mark Hyman :

"Our brains are biologically driven to seek and devour high-calorie, fatty foods. The difference is that I have learned how to control those primitive parts of my brain. Anyone can this if they know how. In this article, I will share 3 steps to help you counteract those primitive parts of your brain that have you chasing high-calorie, nutrient-poor foods. But before you can update your brain’s biological software, you’ve got to understand why it developed in the first place.

Calories = Survival

The brain’s desire to binge on rich food is a genetic holdover from the days of hunter-gatherers. Given what scientists know today about our early ancestors it makes sense that our brains are hardwired to fixate on high-calorie foods. It’s a survival mechanism. Eating as many calories as possible, whenever possible, allowed our ancestors to store excess calories as fat and survive lean times. That approach worked well for 2.4 million years, but today it’s making us sick and fat.

That’s because our brains haven’t evolved as fast as our food environment. The human brain evolved over 2.5 million years. And, with the exception of the last 10,000 years, people only ate animals they could hunt and wild-plants they could gather. Imagine if you could only eat what you caught or picked! The variety of foods hunter-gatherers ate paled in comparison to the 40,000 different food items we can buy in the average big-box grocery store today(1).
And whereas we have easy access to food 24/7, drive-thru meals were not an option for hunter-gatherers. Not to mention that hunting and gathering was hard work. Early humans expended lots of calories acquiring their food, so they needed to eat high-calorie foods to offset the loss. The average hunter-gatherer got up to 60 percent of his calories from animal foods, such as muscle meat, fat, and organ meat, and the other 40 percent from plants(2).

That balance between protein and carbohydrates in the diet is where the problem lies, but it’s not what you think. Carbohydrates have gotten a bad rap, but they are the single most important nutrient for long-term health and weight loss. But I’m not talking about bagels and donuts. I’m talking about plant foods that more closely resemble what our ancestors ate. Hunter-gatherers ate fruit, tubers, seeds, and nuts. These are whole foods. They are full of fiber, vitamins, minerals and disease- and weight-busting colorful phytochemicals. They also take time to digest. Therefore, they raise blood sugar slowly, which balances metabolism and offers a steady stream of energy. Whole foods have all the right information and turn on all the right genes.

But the past 10,000 years saw the advent of both agriculture and industrialization. And, in the blink of an eye (by evolutionary standards), the human diet got turned upside down. Today, 60 percent of our calories come from things that hunter-gatherers wouldn’t even recognize as food. The bulk of those items—cereal grains, sugary drinks, refined oils and dressings—are simple carbohydrates(3). The primitive brain sees an endless supply of easy energy. Left unchecked, our bodies pay the price. The result is a two-fronted epidemic of obesity and diabetes in our country—what I call diabesity.

The Blood Sugar Cascade

When you eat simple carbohydrates, whether as sugar or as starch, they pass almost instantaneously from the gut into the bloodstream. Within seconds blood sugar levels start to rise. To counter the increase in sugar, the body releases insulin. Insulin is the key that unlocks the cells and allows sugar to enter. As sugar enters the cells, the amount of sugar in the blood declines and the body restores homeostasis.

An abundance of simple sugars in the diet goads the body into releasing more and more insulin. Eventually, the cellular locks get worn down from overuse. Like a key that’s lost its teeth, insulin loses its ability to easily open the cellular door. The cells become numb to the effects of insulin. As a result, the body pumps out more and more of the hormone to keep its blood sugar levels in check. Eventually, this cycle leads to a dangerous condition called insulin resistance. Insulin resistance—at the root of diabesity—causes you to gain belly fat, raises your blood pressure, messes up your cholesterol, makes you infertile, kills your sex drive, makes you depressed, tired, and demented, and even causes cancer.

3 Ways to Reprogram your Brain

Luckily there are ways to rewire the primitive parts of your brain by making good food choices. Here are 3 ways to get started. For more suggestions on how to wrestle control from your reptilian brain, see Chapter 15 of The Blood Sugar Solution.
•Balance blood sugar. Blood sugar highs and lows drive primitive food cravings. If you get famished between meals, that’s a sign that your blood sugar is crashing. When blood sugar is low, you’ll eat anything. To better balance blood sugar, eat a small meal or snack that includes healthy protein, like seeds or nuts, every 3 to 4 hours.

•Eliminate liquid calories and artificial sweeteners. Early humans didn’t reach for soda or fruit juices when they got thirsty. Sodas are full of chemicals and high fructose corn syrup. Processed fruit juices are awash in sugar. Try sticking with water and green tea. Green tea contains plant chemicals that are good for your health. And, last but not least, don’t succumb to the diet-drink trap. The artificial sweeteners in diet drinks fool the body into thinking it is ingesting sugar, which creates the same insulin spike as regular sugar.

•Eat a high-quality protein at breakfast. Ideally, you’re eating quality protein at every meal, but, if you need to prioritize one meal, choose breakfast. Studies show that waking up to a healthy protein, such as eggs, nuts, seeds, nut butters or a protein shake (see my UltraShake recipe) help people lose weight, reduce cravings and burn calories.

Ultimately, you may not control your genes but you do control what and how you eat. Since taking control and changing my diet, my brain no longer caves into the cravings and urgings that seduce the reptilian brain. The most powerful tool you have to transform your health is your fork! Use it well and you will thrive."

GOAL: surviving negative family dynamics
"There is a warmth and calmness running through my veins tonight that can only be attributed to being "Sally-ized". Thank you. Having everything start to unfurl is very interesting... It has been difficult, but I knew that I needed to stick to my guns... Well, I AIN'T playing that game anymore. And it feels really good."

GOAL: stop smoking
"I had smoked cigarrettes for 20 years. I started when I was really young and did not really think hypnosis would work, but I had a new girlfriend that didn't like it that I smoked. My first hypnosis session was on a Friday afternoon. That weekend, I went out to all the places I usually smoke and it was amazing. Just like Sally said, I did not have to struggle not to smoke, I just didn't even want to. "

GOAL: recovering from grief and loss
"I slept well. I was able to cope with things WAY better. I could leave the house each day …with a smile in my heart, and on my face. …You have taught me so many fantastic things! You have taken me from a confused "blackest black" man, like damn Queen Victioria grieving for Albert, and put me back in the world I must live in. And made me understand about love and loss, and… how to cope. You have given me so many beautiful pictures in my head. And when I wake restless or worried, I can see the waves washing over my rock … And say "thank you universe for what I DO have." You have given me that. That is amazing."

GOAL: self esteem
"Hypnosis helped me stop being so anxious when I meet new people. I would get really nervous and say and do stupid things and feel really bad about myself. I am so much more comfortable now and even went to a party by myself and I had never done that before. I also am getting along with my mom better. After my first 2 hypnosis sessions, I took a trip to Oregon to visit my mom and for the first time since I can remember we did not have a big fight."

GOAL: transition to new job
"Thanks again for a wonderful and eye-opening (brain opening?) session yesterday. I will refer my friends to you..."

GOAL: stop drinking alcohol
"You are amazing. Sitting through a five course meal with a different wine with each...Then at party with 7 different Champagnes.....then the champagne toast at Midnight. No twinge of craving what so ever. My daughter kept saying..Mom I'm so proud of you... it must be hard for you. I loved saying no, I am feeling calm and comfortable. That was the best. "

GOAL: relieving social anxiety
"You offer a good variety of alternative therapies, which I prefer over hypnosis alone."
GOAL: stop being afraid of bad weather
"Just wanted to let you know that it rained REALLY hard on Saturday. My son was at his dad’s and he was FINE.. OMG- thank YOU !!! I cannot tell you how thrilled I am. He acted like "well of course I wasn’t afraid... and I didn’t even have my rock!!"

GOAL: life goals
"What you helped me with last visit has been spectacular."

GOAL: stop biting fingernails
"After my first hypnosis session I did not think I was hypnotised and did not think it worked at all. Then suddenly, a few days later, I looked down at my hands and I had fingernails! I was shocked. I couldn't believe my eyes for a minute, because it had happened without me even realizing it."

How is this possible? EFT Emotional Freedom Meridian Tapping

Nick Ortner explains: "...How is this possible?
How can tapping on "meridian points" resolve serious health issues?

… tapping on specific meridian points has a positive effect on cortisol levels. Cortisol, known as the "stress hormone," is integral to our body's "fight or flight" response. Originally designed to help us survive life in the wild, the "fight or flight" response was essential when our ancient ancestors were faced with sudden, brief danger like, let's say, a tiger.

However useful in short bursts, releasing cortisol too frequently, as we seem to be doing in response to the ongoing or "chronic" stress of modern life, may have serious, even scary, impacts on our physical, mental and emotional health. In fact, living in this kind of biological "survival mode" may be making us more vulnerable to everything from cancer to heart disease, and more.

…Dr. Church, Ph.D. has been researching and using EFT since 2002…. In Dr. Church's study, 83 participants were separated into three groups. One group was guided through an hour-long EFT session, the second group received an hour of talk therapy, while the third, the control group, received no treatment. The group that did an hour of EFT demonstrated a 24 percent decrease in cortisol levels, while the other two groups showed no real change. The EFT group also exhibited lower levels of psychological symptoms, including anxiety, depression, and others, as measured by the Symptom Assessment-45 (SA-45), a standard psychological assessment tool.

Research suggests that EFT may be so effective because of its perceived ability to balance out the nervous system, leveling off the activity of the parasympathetic and sympathetic regions. Responsible for promoting cell regeneration and relaxation, the parasympathetic region helps to slow your heartbeat, support digestion, and more.

The sympathetic system, on the other hand, prepares you for vigorous physical activity by speeding up your heart, constricting your pupils, and so on….imbalance between these two regions is associated with a long list of health issues, from high blood pressure and heart problems (most often seen in those with an overactive sympathetic region), to depression, fatigue, and weakened immune response (in those with excessive parasympathetic activity).

Dr. Feinstein, a clinical psychologist who uses EFT in his own practice, adds that EFT is an "unusually precise, rapid, and direct for shifting the neurological underpinnings of a range of psychological problems." In fact, he adds, "the number of therapists using EFT has been rapidly increasing over the past decade, and now peer-reviewed research is showing that their instincts have been right. Surprisingly rapid outcomes with a variety of disorders are being documented.""

Nick Ornter is the creator and executive producer of the hit documentary film, "The Tapping Solution." His new book on EFT will be published by Hay House in April 2013. To get a copy of his free eBook, "Tapping Your Way to Health, Happiness and Abundance" visit TheTappingSolution.com.

Fitness trends for 2012 - Hypnosis Seattle can help.

Recently the American Council on Exercise, (ACE), released its report on fitness trends to watch for in 2012. The trend report can be used as a guideline to improve fitness and lead a healthier lifestyle.

This report considered obesity awareness and "whole life-training" among the top trends/concerns of consumers for the coming year.

Research shows that just using diet to improve upon our health just isn't enough.

What if you begin to start thinking about all lifestyle factors that can improve your health and well-being?

Hypnosis is one of the most effective ways to help in changing our behaviors to increase physical activity, eat healthier foods and manage stress effectively to greatly improve life quality.

The rapid induction method of hypnosis or not?

Recently I was asked if I use the rapid induction method of hypnosis.

The answer to the question is “no”, I do not use the rapid induction method, except the whole story is that I do not do any kind of formal induction.

For the beginning of the actual hypnosis part of my sessions, I use a guided visualization and breathing exercise to show you how to train your mind and body to return to this relaxed state whenever you choose.

Before the actual hypnosis part of our session, I work with clients in an active trance state, engaged in guided imagery, where the client is accessing Alpha and Theta brain wave states AND is fully awake and aware.

By the time we get to the actual hypnosis part of the session, my clients have already been in and out of different levels of trance several times, so I do not spend any time worrying about whether you are in trance or not.

Hypnosis may not feel any different than your normal waking state of awareness.

During hypnosis, your conscious mind may remain focused on my words or it may drift off so you do not track what I am saying.

In my work, I tell my clients that it doesn’t matter what your conscious mind is doing during hypnosis, because your unconscious will be listening to everything I say and you can trust that you will go to the level of trance that is appropriate for you.
