I will, I won't, and I want
How Self-Control Works, Why It Matters, and What You Can Do To Get More of It
In any conflict, the subconscious will always triumph.
In any conflict, the subconscious will always triumph, therefore the concept of willpower is largely meaningless.
Any notion of overcoming subconscious resistance with conscious will is a myth."

Unfulfilled Wishes
"We all do things we wish we did not do, and don't do things we wish we would. Our unfulfilled wishes and desires are clearly conscious. What we really do tells us our subconscious position on things.
Self hypnosis and suggestion are the way we go about bringing the subconscious mind into agreement with our conscious plans. It is the way we tune our intrapsychic or bicameral resonance.
To achieve your ends it is in fact essential that you cease thinking in adversarial terms and move toward the concept of harmony, coordination and resonance."
"Will" is bicameral resonance.
" "Bicameral" simply means there are two governing parts of the mind.
In other words, the conscious part and the unconscious, or subconscious, part.
...To tap into more of the richness of the concept of resonance, and to go further into the complexities of how the two parts of the mind work together, think of two musical instruments, say a horn and a guitar. If a note is played on the horn it will make the guitar strings vibrate the same note and some of its harmonics. That is resonance. The closer the horn's note is to the "key" of the string, the stronger the vibration.
Now consider two related qualities of resonance, consonance and dissonance.
Consonance is a good thing. It sounds good when two notes that are consonant are played simultaneously, and in the same way it is easy for us to do something when there is consonance between the conscious and subconscious parts of the mind. The more consonant they are, the easier it is.
Dissonance is not such a good thing. Two notes that don't go together jangle our nerves; they are not harmonious. Same goes for ideas. If there is conscious-subconscious dissonance about something, it is the subconscious "note" that will come through. In other words, without conscious-subconscious agreement, the only thing that will happen will be what the subconscious wants.
What this theorem says, then, is that will is the product of agreement about a particular idea between the subconscious and conscious parts of the mind.
Everything we do, we do with agreement from the subconscious mind.
To suggest that we will consciously override the subconscious is ridiculous. The subconscious mind is far and away the dominant force and must be reckoned with for any achievement to occur.
Conversely, without subconscious concurrence, you will not be able to do it. Not for very long, anyway.
This position has immense ramifications at every level of human study. It challenges conventional wisdom which is seemingly set in stone. It attracts a lot of controversy.
The Myth of Willpower
Read more: http://stason.org/TULARC/self-growth/hypnosis/The-Myth-of-Willpower-Continued.html#.Uo_4kdGA2ic#ixzz2lQOIKJRW
"So willpower is a mythical conception. It is a quality of mind or personality that just does not exist. It is a phantasm. It is a cruel hoax because it makes those of us who don't seem to have it feel inadequate. Yet adequacy and inadequacy have nothing to do with it."
Self-Control Relies on Glucose as a Limited Energy Source
"Self-control, as a relatively advanced human capacity, was probably one of the last to develop and hence may be one of the first to suffer impairments when resources are inadequate. The present findings suggest that relatively small acts of self-control are sufficient to deplete the available supply of glucose, thereby impairing the control of thought and behavior, at least until the body can retrieve more glucose from its stores or ingest more calories. More generally, the body’s variable ability to mobilize glucose may be an important determinant of people’s capacity to live up to their ideals, pursue their goals, and realize
their virtues."
A burgeoning body of evidence has linked good self-control to a broad range of desirable outcomes, including healthier interpersonal relationships, greater popularity, better mental health, more effective coping skills, reduced aggression, and superior academic performance, as well as less susceptibility to drug and alcohol abuse, criminality, and eating disorders."

What hypnosis is used for in 30 seconds or less
Hypnosis is used to get rid of what you don’t like, to get more of what you do like, and to find out more about what makes you tick.
That’s it in a nutshell.
If I’m losing weight, I’m getting rid of something I don’t like. The same is true if I stop smoking or get rid of feelings of grief or anger. This is the category that is most associated with hypnosis.
On the other side of the coin, when I get a boost of self-confidence or self-esteem, I’m getting more of something I do want.
The same thing is true when I use hypnosis to become better at sports. All of these are examples of hypnotic uses that fall into the “I want more” category.
If you want to think of it this way, the “I want more” category is the self-improvement category.
The last phrase ... , “and to find out more about you”, represents the newest use of hypnosis.
Hypnotists are now working with clients to help them gain a better understanding of who they really
are and what their purpose in life is. In my opinion, it’s the most fascinating area of hypnosis today."

Ryan Howes "The Ten Coolest Therapy Interventions"
Ryan Howes's The Ten Coolest Therapy Interventions
"This series is for entertainment and basic educational purposes only. My mission is to demystify elements of therapy so it becomes more accessible to the general public."
"Here are the Ten Coolest Therapy Inventions (10CTI). Click through to each full post and interview:
10. The Miracle Question
"Suppose tonight, while you slept, a miracle occurred. When you awake tomorrow, what would be some of the things you would notice that would tell you life had suddenly gotten better?"
"What: One simple question that moves clients toward a solution-focused outcome.
Why cool? Immediately shifts the brain toward positive thinking.
Guest: Linda Metcalf, author and Solution-Focused Therapy expert."
9. The Empty Chair
"The client imagined someone (or himself, herself, or parts of him or herself) in it, and spoke, gestured, or otherwise communicated to the "empty chair," which was now not so empty. The client then sat in the chair, continuing the conversation, this time reversing roles."
"What: Telling off your demanding boss, even if the chair opposite you is empty.
Why cool? Enabled millions of people to practice expressing how they really feel.
Guest: Dan Bloom, President of the Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy."
8. Paradoxical Interventions
"The idea is that, if a symptom is involuntary, having it voluntarily means the behavior can be controlled and is no longer a symptom."
"What: By prescribing the very symptom you want to eliminate, somehow you gain power and control.
Why cool? Insight and progress sneak through the back door.
Guest: Cloe Madanes, pioneer of Strategic Family Therapy."
7. Voice Dialogue
"Each of us "contains multitudes". We are made up of many selves, identifying with some and rejecting others. This over-identification with some selves and the loss of wholeness that comes from the rejection of others, can create imbalances and blind spots. This work is about embracing all the selves."
"What: A summit meeting between conflicted parts of self.
Why cool? Helps clients understand how complex they are and work toward integration.
Guest: Hal and Sidra Stone, founders of the Psychology of the Selves."
6. The Hunger Illusion
"The process is simple: 1) identify the moment you tend to act automatically, 2) don't, and 3) see what thoughts and feelings come up."
"What: Stop yourself before acting on habit and see what comes up.
Why cool? Gives powerful insight into the unconscious with no therapist required!
Guest: George Weinberg, venerable psychologist and Hunger Illusion creator."
5. Head-On Collision
"When people push through the resistance and experience true, intense emotion about the past and present, psychological symptoms diminish and interpersonal relationships improve."
"What: Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy ( ISTDP ) therapists are essentially resistance exterminators who eliminate harmful defenses.
Why cool? It's quick, it's bold, it's hardcore, it's punk rock.
Guest: Allan Abbas, leading researcher in ISTDP."
4. Sandplay
"The remarkable feature of sandplay is that, as the client fashions and moves the figures in the trays, his or her psyche concurrently moves into new and healthier configurations. This takes place with no intermediary. Instead it is a direct link of psyche, or brain patterns to three dimensional figures that "write" and "re-write" its configuration to healthier, fuller functioning."
"What: Using your hands, sand and plastic figures to communicate your internal world.
Why cool? The psyche becomes a visible, tangible 3-D environment.
Guest: Barbara Turner, prominent author and Sandplay therapist."
3. Primal Therapy
"The aim of Primal Therapy is to restore the patients access to their repressed feelings and therefore free them from the consequences of repression. It is a process that the patients can go on doing by themselves once they have "access" to the buried feelings."
"Each time they let themselves "feel" they reconnect themselves to the origin of the repression and have numerous insights. They also feel better that they knew was possible because they take the misery out of their systems."
"What: Expressing emotions locked away from consciousness.
Why cool? It confronts the deepest wounds to achieve profound results. And John Lennon did it.
Guest: Arthur Janov, founder of Primal Therapy."
2. Virtual Reality
"We are at the start of a revolution in clinical research and care, in large part due to the game-changing impact that VR and other related digital technologies will have, as we charge ahead into the 21st Century!"
"What: Using a computer-generated environment to help soldiers and others work through emotional trauma.
Why cool? Just re-read that last sentence.
Guest: Cyber-psychology's bad boy, Skip Rizzo."
1. Transference Interpretation
"The interpretation of the transference situation is designed to make something conscious that has been unconscious."
"This co-created epiphany helps thoughts, feelings and behaviors suddenly make sense and seem manageable."
"A transference interpretation links three sides of a triangle. One side is the patient's transference to the therapist; a second side is the patient's experiences with current relationships outside of therapy; the third side is the patient's past relationships with parents and others."
"What: Ties together the past, the present and the therapy in one well-crafted statement.
Why cool? Patience, understanding and insight collide in one life-changing sentence.
Guest: Popular author and psychoanalyst Glen O. Gabbard. "
And one final post to summarize, list the honorable mentions and wrap up."
"Honorable Mentions
- EMDR - Treating thousands of cases of PTSD, one eyeball at a time.
- Equine Therapy - When the couch becomes a saddle for treating eating disorders, mood disorders, autism, even gang violence.
- Here and Now - For some folks, this is the most difficult question ever: "How are you feeling here with me now?"

Emotional Stress -- Impossible to Change?
Marcelle Pick, OB-GYN N.P.
"A wonderful place to start is by noticing how you think.
Are you talking to yourself in a negative way every day or every time you look in the mirror? The first step is to notice.
And then you may get to a place where you can catch yourself before running those negative scripts and shift them to positive scripts.
Once we start to say more positive things to ourselves, our bodies will eventually feel those messages, and our lives will change."
Check in with how you feel each day.
"Check in with how you feel each day.
Are you tired?
Irritable?
Craving sugar?
Or do you feel energetic, even-keeled and satisfied?
Can you connect the way you feel with any of your food choices?
Marcelle Pick, OB-GYN, NP
has seen some women take gluten and sugar out of their diets and see incredible results.
Some women just add protein to each meal and snack and find a renewed energy they thought they'd lost in their 20s.
Some feel better on a Mediterranean diet, while others enjoy a vegetarian or a low-fat diet.
The point is that you are the only one who can tell which way to eat is best.
Once you find foods you love (and the ones that love you back), you'll be amazed at how good you can feel!"

Your mind is like a computer!
The unconscious mind operates automatic body systems in the same way as a computer’s operating system.
The subconscious operates like a hard drive by storing information.
The conscious mind functions like RAM choosing what information is to be acted on moment by moment.
In order to update any files, the subconscious must be engaged. We cannot change memories, but we can update how we feel about them.
Hypnotherapy helps change perceptions of memories, which in turn helps change perceptions of the self and hence, behavior.
Our emotional and intellectual attitudes toward past, present and future events can be transformed into something that supports us in getting the results we want, achieving our goals and creating the life we desire.

Hypnosis Research
Basic scientific research, much of it done at Harvard University by neuroscientist Steven Kosslyn and colleagues, has shown us that when people imagine things, the part of their brains involved in the senses they are using become active.
Using modern technologies like functional MRIs (fMRI) and SPECT scans, brain scientists can see which areas of the brain get activated when mental tasks are performed.
The studies show that when people imagine seeing something, the occipital cortex, the part of the brain that processes information from the eyes, becomes activated.
When people imagine listening to music, the temporal cortex, where music is processed, becomes active.
When people imagine moving, areas of the brain (the prefrontal motor cortex) that instruct the body to move become active.

Your B S… And Why You Should Care
"Your B S – or Belief Systems – are what can make or break your success. Left unexamined, they can actually create a lot of undesirable results. Even more challenging are the Belief Systems you don’t know about…
Many people know that they have both conscious and unconscious beliefs, and that the unconscious beliefs are the ones that block you from living your best life and expressing your true life purpose.
Of course, the trouble with that is… they are UNCONSCIOUS!
You can’t reach them by using your linear mind, which is what we’ve been conditioned by society to do as our default strategy.
Just as you can’t see the wind but you can see where it’s having an effect by blowing leaves around, you can’t see your Belief Systems – but you can see what they create."

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a set of models of how communication impacts and is impacted by subjective experience.
Richard Bandler and John Grinder, in their book on NLP, Frogs Into Princes: "We call ourselves modelers. What we essentially do is to pay very little attention to what people say they do, and a great deal of attention to what they do."
Neuro-Linguistic programming is concerned with the patterns or programming created by the interactions among the brain, language, and the body, that produce both effective and ineffective behavior.
Genuine NLP-related techniques focus on process and largely, if not completely, avoid content.
NLP makes little or no use of psycho-analytical style "psycho-archaeology"
Because, whenever content and/or raking over old memories become the primary focus, control passes from the client/subject to the person using the technique.
...Results brought about by the client/subject are far more effective than results imposed upon them - as expressed in the presupposition that people already have, or can find, all the resources they need.

grounded and openhearted
"Once you've attuned with your client, the session begins to flow, and there's an almost effortless quality to the work, as if something magical were unfolding almost by itself. I don't even think about what I'm going to say – the right words just come out, as if something were speaking through me. Afterward, I'm full of energy, as if I'd been meditating for an hour rather than doing hard, demanding, clinical work. In a sense, of course, I've been in a state of meditation – a state of deep mindfulness, full-bodied attention, centered awareness, and inner calm. And even after all these years, I still have the sense of being witness to something awe inspiring, as if the client and I both were connected to something beyond us, much bigger than we are."

Our Desires are Conscious Thoughts While Our Behaviors are Unconcsious
http://www.tomnicoli.com/how.shtml
Thursday, March 21, 2013
What can hypnosis be used for?
The problems which affect human beings are "unconscious" ones, almost by definition.
After all, nobody consciously chooses to behave in ways that cause them problems!
One of the great presuppositions of modern hypnotherapy is that all behavior is trying to achieve a purpose, even if the effects of that behavior are counter-productive.
In other words, the unconscious mind has convinced itself that the problem behavior is "good" for us in some way, and persists despite all the evidence to the contrary.
It is notoriously difficult, if not impossible, to control unconscious behavior through conscious effort alone.
The human mind has often been compared to an iceberg, with the conscious mind being the 10% that you can see above the surface. That leaves 90% below the surface - and that's the bit which sank the Titanic. To put it another way, the unconscious mind outnumbers the conscious mind by 9 to 1. In your conscious, lucid moments you may well recognize that your habits, responses or feelings are causing you difficulty, but that lone rational voice will be drowned out by nine unconscious voices saying the exact opposite.
The solution, therefore, is to get the unconscious and conscious minds saying the same thing.
Hypnosis is all about direct communication with the unconscious mind, and is the most powerful tool we have for bringing about change at the unconscious level. It can be used in any situation where you need to let go of old patterns of behavior, and learn new ones.
All of the problems that people commonly seek hypnotic help for can be seen in this light.
Changing unwanted habits such as smoking or nail biting obviously involves changing a pattern of behavior, but so does something like gaining more confidence or dealing with stress - the unconscious needs to learn "confidence" patterns and unlearn "stress" patterns for specific situations.
So how does hypnosis actually teach the unconscious mind these new patterns of behavior?
Broadly speaking the hypnotist or hypnotherapist is aiming to do at least one of two things. First of all, they aim to help the client perceive things in a different and more helpful way - a reframe in therapy jargon.
Phobias are a good example. When somebody has a phobia, their unconscious mind has labeled an object or situation as literally life-threatening. Hypnosis can be used to reframe that object or situation in a more realistic way, as something that is inherently safe, or at least non-threatening.
Even physical conditions such as chronic pain can be reframed. An experiment conducted by the University of Bangor achieved remarkable results with rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. Using self-hypnosis, the participants visualized their pain as a person, bringing them news that something was wrong. They were able to thank that person for the information, before sending them politely but firmly on their way. This technique brought about significant reduction in pain. In effect, their pain had been reframed, from "permanent condition" to "message delivered - so no longer needed".
Reframing takes place every time the unconscious receives and accepts new information through hypnosis. Learning better ways to deal with stress, breaking a dependence on cigarettes or alcohol, developing the ability to speak to the opposite sex without blushing, even learning to relax more deeply - these are all reframes, in that they literally create a different world for the client, one in which the old ways of going about things no longer apply.
The second hypnotic strategy is mental rehearsal of preferred behavior or a preferred future.
In therapy-speak, this is known as future pacing.
Through the use of guided imagery, the hypnotist is able to re-create the preferred behavior in rich and vivid detail, so that the client experiences it in their imagination as if it were actually happening. Somebody who is severely stressed at work, for example, may be future-paced through a typical day feeling calm and in control.
The rationale behind future-pacing is that the unconscious mind does not discriminate between "real" and "imagined" events - it produces exactly the same physical and emotional responses to each. If you vividly imagine your favorite meal, for instance, you'll probably start to salivate. In just the same way, building up a detailed mental picture of yourself acting or feeling better in a certain situation gives the unconscious mind a better template to refer to the next time it encounters that situation.
This process also harnesses expectation, a powerful force shaping human behavior. We're constantly trying to fulfill our expectations, good or bad. If you expect something to be stressful, it usually will be. If you expect the same thing to be easily manageable, it will usually be that, too. This is another form of reframe, of course. Setting up positive expectations about a situation or event creates a preferred-behavior shaped "hole", which the unconscious mind seeks to fill with a preferred-behavior shaped "peg", made up of the appropriate emotions, responses and behaviors.
It could be argued that all problems are unconscious problems, even those that arise from external events that seem to be beyond our control.
It is our reaction to these events, rather than the events themselves that is crucial.
Through hypnosis, we can learn better ways for our unconscious minds to react to the uncertainties and challenges that are a normal part of living.
Hypnosis works by communicating with the unconscious mind.
Conscious and unconscious are really just shorthand terms to describe the general characteristics of the human mind.
The "conscious mind" is the bit where we tend to "live" - the bit you might think of as "you". If there's a little voice reading these words out loud in your head, that's the conscious mind talking. The unconscious mind is everything else!
The unconscious controls all of the autonomic processes that you don't have to think about - the heart rate, the blood pressure, tissue growth, cell regeneration, the immune system and so on. It's where our thoughts, memories and accumulated experience reside. It controls our emotions, our habits and our responses to the world.
In many ways, it creates that world for us. The unconscious mind handles about two million bits of sensory information every single second. The conscious mind deals with about seven. That means that the reality you're actually aware of from moment to moment has been brought to your conscious attention by the unconscious, in a sort of Readers' Digest version, choosing seven bits which it thinks are important from the two million it's just processed.
The conscious mind is more logical, critical and analytical - it's constantly making value judgments. If somebody was to say to you "you really should give up smoking, you know, it's terribly bad for you", you're highly unlikely to become a non-smoker on the spot. You're more likely to come up with a dozen, rational sounding reasons as to why you should carry on smoking, or you might tell them to shove off and mind their own business. Even if you do consciously accept that you should give up smoking, it's not the conscious part of the mind that's keeping the habit in place.
The unconscious part of the mind, on the other hand, is much more accepting. It's also quite literal and tends to take things personally, relating any information it receives to you as an individual.
Hypnosis works by bypassing the critical conscious mind (usually through relaxation or linguistic techniques), and speaking directly to the unconscious in a language which it understands - pattern, association and metaphor.
As mentioned earlier, the unconscious mind is basically in charge.
The vast majority of things that we do are unconscious, which we can be grateful for - if you had to consciously think about every single thing you did, you wouldn't do anything. However, it can lead us astray.
Most problems are things that we've learned how to do at an unconscious level - we've just learned how to them in an unhelpful way.
Problems are often an attempt at a solution.
This is true even for such apparently self-destructive habits as smoking. Many smokers start in their teens, when smoking is seen as a quick way to fit in, acquire adult status or generally appear cool. Through sheer repetition, the unconscious mind becomes convinced that smoking is serving a vital purpose - that it's "good " for you in some way.
Hypnosis works by updating the unconscious mind with new and more helpful information, like reprogramming a computer.
It can be used to change associations, so that cigarettes, for instance, are no longer seen as "little friends", and are more realistically regarded as "toxic killers". It can also be used to mentally rehearse better ways of going about things, such as being able to deal with stressful situations without having to light up.
Since the unconscious mind controls our autonomic bodily processes, physical change can also be achieved through hypnosis.
Pain control is a very good example. The mind alters our awareness of pain all the time - professional chefs, for instance, get burnt on a regular basis, but rarely notice it unless it's particularly severe. You'll have experienced this yourself if you've ever discovered a cut or a bruise and wondered how it got there. Physical events are still occurring, but the unconscious has relegated them to the 1,999,993 bits of sensory information you're not aware of every single second. Hypnosis can therefore be used to amplify that same response and apply it to a specific situation, such as the control of headaches.
Hypnosis works, then, by shaping our perception of reality by dealing directly with the unconscious mind, the seat of most of our problems, and most of our solutions too.

Create Personal Change
The PCAT Formula is the formula most often used in hypnosis to create personal change. The hypnotherapist identifies the problem (P), bypasses the critical factor (C), applies an active solution (A) and creates transformation (T).
This is simply the process of attaching the problem to the solution for the outcome to be achieved.
Future memories are a great tool to integrate into the PCAT Formula. Future memories are when you place a memory within the person who is being hypnotized as if it has already taken place. This will help the mind to become formatted to create the events that will lead to that memory and making it a real memory to be carried out and remembered truly.

Transformation starts with a thought!
Mentor, Teacher, Catalyst for Women's Personal Growth and Transformation - Sally Canning
Transformation starts with a thought – the thought that change is possible – the thought that you can move from where you are now to where you would dearly love to be.
Begin with this simple process
Ask yourself:
1. What emotions do I feel right now?2. What thoughts am I having that create this feeling?
3. How can I think about this in a way that feels just a little bit better?
4. Search for ANY thought that has a lighter feeling than the one you’ve held so far.
5. Hold that thought and notice the change it makes to your emotions (any change is better than none).

"To make children happier, we may need to encourage them to develop a strong sense of personal worth, according to Dr. Mark Holder from the University of British Columbia in Canada and his colleagues Dr. Ben Coleman and Judi Wallace. Their research shows that children who feel that their lives have meaning and value and who develop deep, quality relationships - both measures of spirituality - are happier. It would appear, however, that their religious practices have little effect on their happiness. These findings have been published in the online edition of Springer's Journal of Happiness Studies.
Both spirituality (an inner belief system that a person relies on for strength and comfort) and religiousness (institutional religious rituals, practices and beliefs) have been linked to increased happiness in adults and adolescents. In contrast, very little work has been done on younger children. In an effort to identify strategies to increase children's happiness, Holder and colleagues set out to better understand the nature of the relationship between spirituality, religiousness and happiness in children aged 8 to 12 years. A total of 320 children, from four public schools and two faith-based schools, completed six different questionnaires to rate their happiness, their spirituality, their religiousness and their temperament. Parents were also asked to rate their child's happiness and temperament.
The authors found that those children who said they were more spiritual were happier. In particular, the personal (i.e. meaning and value in one's own life) and communal (i.e. quality and depth of inter-personal relationships) aspects of spirituality were strong predictors of children's happiness. Spirituality explained up to 27 percent of the differences in happiness levels amongst children.
A child's temperament was also an important predictor of happiness. In particular, happier children were more sociable and less shy. The relationship between spirituality and happiness remained strong, even when the authors took temperament into account. However, counter intuitively, religious practices - including attending church, praying and meditating - had little effect on a child's happiness.
According to the authors, "enhancing personal meaning may be a key factor in the relation between spirituality and happiness." They suggest that strategies aimed at increasing personal meaning in children - such as expressing kindness towards others and recording these acts of kindness, as well as acts of altruism and volunteering - may help to make children happier."

Hypnosis Research
The results, published in the American Journal of Psychiatry in 2000, were striking. When the subjects truly saw the color rectangles, the fusiform circuit lit up on both sides of their brain; when they had to imagine the color, the circuit only lit up in the right hemisphere. Under hypnosis, though, both sides of the brain became active—just as in regular sight.

Accomplishing Goals without Willpower
Your conscious mind is only able to process approximately 50 bits of information a second, while your unconscious mind processes approximately 11 million bits per second [Source 3].
That means your unconscious mind processes information about 220 THOUSAND TIMES FASTER than your conscious mind.
Much of the time, your conscious mind is actually the bottleneck towards effecting true change, as its main role is getting you through the day in the here and now AND setting long term goals. (Researchers call this "Executive Control.")
The Trick Is to Have the Triggers for Your Desired Behaviors Reside in Your Unconscious Mind
For example, if your goal is weight control, you would naturally want your unconscious mind to automatically desire healthy green foods, water, healthy portions, exercise, etc… without having to think about it consciously.
If your goal is to be more productive, you would want the actions of setting goals, rewarding yourself for success, focusing on your projects to be automatic.
If you have to consciously think about it all the time, you will exhaust your resources.
If your goal is to have a better relationship, you would want to use hypnosis to program in natural triggers for listening, paying attention, giving space, and showing empathy, instead of always having to think about them.

No More Yelling
"People retain many behaviors that we experience in childhood in the neural patterning of our brains.
The memories of these behaviors stick with us and can have the tendency to be come more pronounced as we become parents. Since most habitual behaviors create neural patterning in the human brain, the strategies from the dominant paradigm, like yelling, are often unconscious and not always the conscious choice of the parent.
The dominant paradigm of being, behaving and parenting is often what parents will resort to during times of emotional stress be cause it’s what they know.
When a parent begins to practice the Simple Directions along with the meditation that’s in our member area HERE, she is actually re-patterning her brain towards more peaceful parenting strategies and away from older, dominant strategies like yelling.
And, as a parent shifts her parenting strategies, then guess what happens with her child?
The child shifts too because your child is modeling you in every moment. So no more yelling for a parent means a decrease in yelling for the child.
And, don’t you just love a peaceful home?"
"You can shift any pattern in your life at any time and that you have an incredible power within your mind that naturally wants to move towards love, connection, abundance and support."
"Find fulfillment and gratification, while happily embracing an authentic, honest and real approach to the challenges that all of us face. "

Hypnosis Aided Weight Loss
There are many complex factors involved in weight loss.
The goal is to identify and remove the blocks that are interfering with permanent weight loss and to learn to listen to your own body's intuition or Inner Wisdom. Hypnosis allows you to eliminate old negative programming and reprograms your subconscious mind with positive thoughts, images and behaviors. You can even identify and release whatever has been holding you back from achieving the results you want in your life. Every thought affects the body in some way.
How do you reach the root of the problem (beyond just trying to change behavior)?
At Hypnosis Seattle, I include techniques that are specifically designed to reach the root of the problem, such as Parts Integration, Timeline, Future Pacing, NLP, Body Talk, Core Beliefs, Re-programming, Inner Voice, Anchoring, HeartMath, Somatic Healing, Ho’oponopono, Post Hypnotic Signals, and a process using Guided Imagery that resolves any hidden conflicts that may have kept you from reaching your goal. There are also breathing techniques and a process called meridian tapping that I may teach you and you can use whenever you choose.

How many sessions does it take to get results?
Sometimes only one or two sessions are needed to begin positive changes, and other times, there are more complex factors involved and it takes more sessions to address what comes up for each individual. Results are ultimately achieved by applying these techniques over time.
Do you consider weight loss through hypnosis to be particularly challenging since it's not a habit you can quit altogether?
The following information is from The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) which is the largest U.S. organization for health and mental health care professionals using clinical hypnosis.
In a 9-week study of two weight management groups (one using hypnosis for weight loss and one not using hypnosis), the hypnosis for weight loss group continued to get results in the two-year follow-up, while the non-hypnosis group showed no further results (Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985).
In a study of 60 women separated into hypnosis versus non-hypnosis groups, the groups using hypnosis lost an average of 17 pounds, while the non-hypnosis group lost an average of only .5 pounds (Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1986).
In a comparison of the results of adding hypnosis to weight loss treatment across multiple studies showed that adding hypnosis increased weight loss by an average of 97% during treatment, and even more importantly increased the effectiveness POST TREATMENT by over 146%. This shows that hypnosis works even better over time (Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1996).
If one is already conscious of their eating habits - will the change hypnosis offers be sufficient?
Also, when under stress, whether it is physical, emotional, mental or environmental, real or imagined, the stress hormone cortisol is released. Cortisol is produced in the adrenal glands which rest on top of the kidneys. These glands also release adrenalin, as an immediate response to stress and cortisol is released under prolonged periods of stress. Both adrenalin and cortisol are necessary in small amounts for us to adapt to stress effectively. In high levels, however, they can have many negative effects on our health including storage of unneeded fat. Also, cortisol shuts down your ability to absorb the nutrients from the food you eat causing your body to send hungers signals to eat more.
It seems that mental or emotional stress is the most harmful to us because it is not followed by a relaxation response in the way it happens with most physical stress. Our brain and body fail to return to a resting, healthy, balanced state. This can lead to weight gain or prevent weight loss.
Hypnosis allows you to train your brain and body to return to a healthy, relaxed state automatically.
